What is the Chicken River MQG?

CRMQG - a group of quilters from the Las Vegas, New Mexico area who are finding their way in the modern quilting scene. Las Vegas NM is the original Las Vegas - founded in 1835. We still don't have casinos and extravagant shows but we have lots of history and of course, a wonderful local quilt shop - Threadbear.

What the Heck is the Chicken River Modern Quilt Guild and Why Did They Choose That Name?

What is the Chicken River? Or where is it? And why did we choose that name?  (we chose it because we wanted to be a little silly!)

The Chicken River is really the Gallinas River and it flows thru northeastern New Mexico and the city of Las Vegas. No, no, not that Las Vegas...the original, real Las Vegas....founded in 1835 or so. A small city in NM, about 60 miles northeast of Santa Fe and 100 miles south of Denver along Interstate 25.

We are just starting this blog and our guild - lots to learn but we've already attended a class with Jacquie Gehring, attended QuiltCon in Austin, and done lots of discussing the main question - what the heck is "modern quilting?".

Modern Quilting with Jacquie Gehring in Albuquerque

So come along with us and quilt along with us. New members are always welcome - right now our membership is about 5 so we all are "lucky enough" to be an officer!!  Come share the fun and the journey.
